Mt. McKinley Excursions

Just 35 miles north of Iditarod headquarters and the sled dog capital of the world, Talkeetna is at the heart of the home training ground for mushers and their racing teams. This tour begins at the Kahiltna Bistro across from the shuttle drop off. Travel to the rustic home of World Champion sprint musher, Kathleen Holden and Top 20 Iditarod musher Jerry Sousa. Visit an authentic Alaska log cabin, meet the dogs, see a demonstration of sled harnessing and mushing preparation. Learn about the winter training program to get these dogs ready for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race held annually in March. Next, experience the thrill of the training program when a team is hooked up and you ride local trails. There may also be a chance to hold and play with the future champions, the puppies. Enjoy lunch before or after the tour at the Kahiltna Bistro in downtown Talkeetna with many items to choose from including famous Clam Chowder, the Crab Salad Sandwich, delicious fish tacos or a juicy hamburger. Special Note

Tour takes place in Talkeetna. Transportation to and from excursion provided by the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge Talkeetna Shuttle. Minimum age is 5. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Depending on the snow level, our local tour operator may opt to operate tour with a motorized ATV. Tour will operate rain or shine.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Alaska Land Excursions, purchased through the Cruise Personalizer, may be cancelled up to three days prior to travel without any cancellation fees. Land Excursions cancelled prior to the cancellation deadline will be refunded to the credit card that you provided in the Cruise Personalizer to purchase your tours. Excursions cancelled within three (3) days prior travel are subject to a 100% cancellation fee, unless the operator, at their sole discretion, is unable to operate the program due to unforeseen circumstances. All sales of tours booked while on your land tour are considered final at the time of purchase and are 100% non-refundable except in the case of an operator approved cancellation.
